Mysidagea from shallow water in the Caribbean Sea

Mysids collected by the Smithsonian-Bredin Expeditions in 1956, 1959, and 1960 to the Antilles and the coast of Quintana Roo, Mexico, have been examined together with samples from the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, and Puerto Rico. The following new species are described and figured: Siriella mexicana sp. nov., Metamysidopsis insularis sp. nov., Heteromysis dispar sp. nov., H. bredini sp. nov., H. mayana sp. nov., H. siciliseta sp. nov., and H. disrupta sp. nov. The following species are recorded: Siriella chierchiae Coifmann, Bowmaniella sewelli Brattegard, Amathimysis gibba Brattegard, Parvimysis bahamensis Brattegard, Mysidium gracile (Dana), M. integrum W. M. Tattersall, M. columbiae (Zimmer), Heteromysis actiniae Clarke, and H. guitarti Băcescu. Keys are given for the identification of the known species of Metamysidopsis and Heteromysini from tropical and warm temperate coastal waters of the western Atlantic.
