A new species of the stygobitic cirolanid genus Bahalana from the Caicos Islands in the Caribbean (Isopoda, Cirolanidae)

Travaux du Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle "Grigore Antipa", 45:83-93.

A fifth species of the entirely subterranean-adapted monophyletic genus Bahalana, restricted in its distribution to the vast archipelago of the Bahamas and Caicos Islands (supposedly also Turks Islands) is described (♀, ♂) from two anchialine caves of North, and respectively, Middle Caicos Islands. B. caicosana n. sp. is closely related to a species presently known from San Salvador, and to one known from Mayaguana and Acklins, and more distant from the two remaining described species. A list of the know Bahalana species with their sampling localities is given, and a preliminary attempt is made to sketch out the history of this stygobitic genus.
