LITHOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION

0.00 – 0.30 m
Dark brownish-black, humic, sandy clay; non-calcareous; plant roots

0.30 – 0.40 m
Greyish-brown sandy clay; few shell fragments; little calcareous; Fe oxidation spots

0.40 – 0.50 m
Greyish-brown sandy loam/clay; many shell fragments (sample); little calcareous; mottled; many Fe oxidation spots

Gradual transition to

0.50 – 0.60 m
Dark brown, very humic/peaty sandy clay; non-calcareous; Fe oxidation spots

Sharper transition to

0.60 – 0.90 m
Light beige-grey very loamy, very fine sand; little calcareous; Fe oxidation spots

0.90 – 1.50 m
Light beige-grey silty, very fine sand; very calcareous; Fe oxidation spots

1.50 – 2.50 m
Light grey silty, very fine sand; very calcareous

Remark: top loam/clay layer becomes progressively more clayey from NW to SE (HEN-01, HEN-02 to HEN-03)
