SUMMARY REPORT WELL ZT2 & ZT3
LNG TERMINAL - ZEEBRUGE
=============================
I. OBJECTIVE
-------------
To investigate the Yc clay formation as an extension program of well ZT1 (11W0280) for the
possibilty of a gas storage site in LNG-Terminal Zeebrugge by obtaining NON
DESTRUCTIVE samples (Well ZT2) and PRESSIOMETER TEST IN-SITU (Well ZT3).
II. CONTRACTOR
--------------
The drilling job and -
coring for Non-Destructive Samples : SMET BORING NV. (B).
The Pressiometer Test in-situ : PMIT (U.K.).
Logging : DIASOL (L).
A. ZT2 :
Operation period : 9/05/1989 - 8/08/1989
TD date : 19/07/1989
Total day-operation : 92 days
Effective day-operation : 54 days
Well diam. and architecture : See Fig.
Drilling method : Hammer/water injection/
chisel mounted on csg shoe
Mud : -Dry/bentonite in the
destructive section
-Dry in the sampling
section
ND-Sampling method : Hydraulic piston
Total non-destructive samples : 39 samples
Top sampling depth : 125.00 m BGL
TD : 190.40 m BGL
Completion : PVC pipes with intermediate
filter (see Fig.), annulus
was filled with fine sand,
filter section with
calibrated sand grain,
sealed with clay-stop at
the filter top
Logging : Through PVC
- Gamma ray
- Darcy Log
IV. LOG INTERPRETATION
----------------------
Only well ZT2 was logged (by DIASOL).
The interpretation was based on the gamma ray log, correlated with well ZT1. Correlation
profile is shown on Fig.
ZT2 is located at south-east of ZT1. The distance between
ZT1 - ZT2 is about...m.
Comments :
- In general, both of the wells are very good correlated.
- ZT1 was logged through the casing by TNO and ZT2 was
logged through the PVC pipe by Diasol.
- Initial sea bed (ZT2) is placed at 12m
- Average depth difference between ZT2 & ZT3 = 2 - 2.5 m,
however the different become larger towards the bottom
hole.
- The depth difference is may be due to :
> Different in reference level. (ZT1 was logged before
the terminal was completed).
> Different in cable stretch.
> Natural dip of the formations.
- Difference in bed thikness can be due to the different
in logging speed. However, local irregularities can also
occur.
- The gamma counts (cps) of both logs are not reliable as
correction value due to the casing or PVC influence are
not available.
- Peak to peak correlation are good and easy to identify.
- The top of Yc(ZT2) according the log was placed at 126 m,
but during drilling this was observed at about 124.5m.
V. DICUSSIONS AND CONCLUSIONS
-----------------------------
1. The project has been successfully carried out.
The operation time was long due to the low ND sampling rate (only 1 or max. 2 samples
per day), but the quality of Non- Destructive samples are good. However, sampling rate
can be improved by adjusting the tripping technique.
2. The data acquisition of SBP-Pressiometer in-situ were
having more problems because the tool has never been used
to test in depth well. Problems were mainly leakage
and incompetant of the data collection unit. When depth is
increased, the automatic data collection system has to be
changed with manual recording by using hand-oil pump to
blow out the membrane instead of using nitrogen and the
data were recorded manualy because the electronic
converter unit did not function properly.
3. 39 Non-Destructive samples and 35 SBP-tests performances were obtained.
4. The correlation between ZT1 and ZT2 is good. The depth
difference has to be reverified.
